Discussion Meeting with Chairman of UGC for Wellbeing of Foreign Students at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU)

The meeting was held in the International Guest House Conference Hall, BAU at 1:00 PM on 30 July 2026. Professor Dr Mamun Ahmed, Honorable Chairman, Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC) was present as Chief Guest. The meeting was presided over by Professor Dr AK Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan, Honorable Vice-Chancellor, BAU.

Students’ Advisor, Registrar, Treasurer, Director of Planning section, Proctor, Associate Students’ Advisor, Guests from UGC, Media personnel and 20 senior foreign students from Nepal and Malaysia attended the meeting.

After a brief introduction, foreign students shared their joyful experience and pointed out some burning issues mostly related to accommodation. Director, Internatnonal Desk mentioned that there are 110 foreign students (from Nepal and Malaysia) are currently studying at BAU. In 2025-2026 session, the highest number (27) have been admitted. He pointed out that there is no separate dormitory for foreign students with required facilities, many of them are residing outside but nearer to the campus that makes security concerns. Another issue is that it takes long time to get clearance from concerned authorities, which causes delays in admission. All discussants expected that if facilities are improved more students will select BAU as destination for their higher studies.

Honorable Chairman of the UGC gave a valuable speech addressing all the issues raised and assured to help build a modern dormitory for foreign students at BAU and he will also try to speed up the admission process for foreign students. Honorable Vice Chancellor gave heartfelt thanks to the Chief Guest for all the good words and finally concluded the session.
